Website Development and Content Management

Website development and content management are vital to your company's success if you want to be found by the major search engines.

When you begin to develop  your web site content you must first consider how you are going to manage that  content once phase one of the site is completed. Perhaps the most critical  mistake you can make when you build a web site is to think that it's as simple  as writing copy and putting up a few photos.

Web site project planning and  management involvement in the  process is more than simply managing the web site design.

Prior to teaching anyone  how to build a web site AND make money, you must first consider your web site management plan. Profitable web sites are  not difficult if you understand that the key to a good web site is content;  period.

However without a on going  web site maintenance plan to manage the content you are wasting valuable time and  money. According to a recent survey done by VerizonSuperPages.com only 55% of  web site cover their cost, while and astonishing 41% of web sites reported an  increase in sales revenue.

There are three stages to  an effective web site  content development and design is the last step and in  most instances small business owners inevitably start backwards by going to a  graphic designer.

The first step in gaining  a web presence is to research and find the key words or phases that people use  to find your products and services. In developing content management systems for web site owners one of the first thing we address is how  do people search for your products or services.

Let's assume for a minute  that your business is selling high end motor coaches, the web site content, (if you want to be found  by the search engines would have to be relevant to motor coaches). Naturally  most people think of a motor coach as an "RV" but in reality it's not  an RV (recreational vehicle) it is a "motor coach". Therefore the more  relevant keyword would be - "motor coach" and not "RV". Yes,  RV can be used as a  substitute for motor coach but you must ask yourself  this question. Do you want the visitor that is looking for a "RV" or  a motor coach?

Which one do you think  would be the more qualified lead? The answer unfortunately is that no one  really know which is the better key word until the site is up and running and  you are monitoring the results.

That is why a clearly  defined web site management plan is important, sure managing your web site design is important but without  having an on going web site  maintenance program to  monitor the back end and key words you really do not know how the site is  performing. Using Goggle analytics and other web site online tools the single  biggest mistake most web site owners make can be overcome with an on-going  management plan for your small business web site

A continual on-going web site content management  system allows you to constantly tweak your site so that the search engines are  assured that your site is update and accurate based on the way your visitors  convert. Your web site maintenance  should be one of the first things that you work on when deciding to build a web site that you would like to be  found on the search engines, otherwise your web site will read like a day old  newspaper.
